A Michigan pool party turned deadly when a guest allegedly stabbed four people, killing two of them, during a heated altercation. Authorities say the suspect, who was already on parole, is now facing multiple murder charges.

Deadly Altercation at Pool Party

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Daiwan Lemane Hopson, 31, was at a gathering on August 9 at the home of 31-year-old Jakirea Williams. At some point, Hopson got into a fight with a 40-year-old man in the backyard. As the dispute escalated, he allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the man several times.

The fight spilled into the front yard, where others tried to intervene. That’s when Hopson allegedly stabbed Williams, 25-year-old Martisha Payne, and another 31-year-old man.

Victims and Outcome

All four stabbing victims were rushed to the hospital. Tragically, two of them did not survive their injuries. The prosecutor’s office did not publicly confirm which victims died, but emphasized that the gathering, meant to be a joyful summer send-off, ended in devastating loss.

Suspect Arrested While on Parole

Hopson fled the scene after the stabbings but was arrested on August 15. He had already been on parole for a previous conviction of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm. Due to his parole status, the Michigan Department of Corrections quickly took him into custody.

Charges Filed

Prosecutors have charged Hopson with:

Two counts of first-degree murder

Two counts of assault with intent to murder

He is expected to be arraigned in Detroit, though a date has not yet been scheduled.

Prosecutor’s Statement

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy called the incident “senseless” and “tragic,” noting how quickly a disagreement spiraled into deadly violence.

“What started out as a friendly family and friends, end-of-the-summer gathering turned deadly with four people stabbed. Two succumbed to their injuries. A disagreement. A quick escalation. An introduction of a deadly weapon. And then multiple deaths. So senseless. So tragic. And so very violent.”

What was meant to be a fun poolside celebration became a horrific crime scene, leaving families grieving and a community shaken. With Hopson now facing murder charges, the case stands as another sobering reminder of how quickly violence can erupt when weapons are introduced into heated disputes.
