North Shore’s star safety, Chace Calicut, will not be participating in the Mustangs’ football season following his arrest in connection with a shooting incident in July. Calicut has also transferred to an alternative school in the area, where he will not play high school football in 2025, sources confirmed to KPRC 2.

Felony Charge and Legal Consequences

Calicut has been charged with a felony count of aggravated assault. Despite the legal situation, Calicut remains a hard commit to play for the University of Georgia’s 2026 recruiting class, as confirmed by 247Sports. However, UGA has not provided a public update on the matter.

Details of the Shooting Incident

The shooting incident occurred on July 6 on Kuykendahl Road in Harris County. Authorities allege that Calicut was driving his Cadillac Escalade SUV alongside his North Shore teammate, Isaiah Phillip, when they encountered another vehicle driven by people they knew.

The victim reported that Calicut was driving erratically, brake-checking them, and a gun was pointed at their car.

The victim’s car attempted to flee the situation but heard gunshots believed to be from Calicut’s vehicle. A witness confirmed seeing the SUV brake abruptly and Calicut’s teammate, Phillip, shooting from the car window.

Phillip’s Tragic Death

Isaiah Phillip, who was involved in the shooting incident, was tragically shot and killed in a separate, unrelated incident in Harris County on July 21.

Contrasting Accounts of the Incident

Quannell X, an activist representing Calicut, has given a different account of the shooting. He maintains that Calicut and Phillip were the victims of the incident, not the aggressors. “He was a victim that night, not a criminal,” X said in a press conference. However, X has not responded to KPRC 2’s request for comment.

The Road Ahead for Calicut

As the legal process continues, Calicut’s future in football and his commitment to the University of Georgia remain uncertain. The situation has left many with more questions than answers, and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
