A Texas man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly fatally stabbing his girlfriend’s ex-husband outside a birthday party over the weekend.

Suspect Identified in Deadly Stabbing

Police identified the suspect as Jamarcus Dewayne Doggett, 31, who is accused of killing Wesley A. Agent, 44, during an altercation early Saturday morning in Lufkin, Texas. Doggett was arrested Monday after investigators said they gathered enough evidence to charge him with murder.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to Lufkin police, the stabbing occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Glenn Street. Officers responded to a 911 call about a disturbance and learned that Agent had already been rushed to a nearby hospital by private vehicle. Despite doctors’ efforts, he died from his injuries shortly after 3 a.m.

Doggett had left the scene, but police later located him at a nearby residence. At first, no arrest was made as detectives continued gathering evidence.

Details from Police and Witnesses

A probable cause affidavit revealed that both men were at a birthday party earlier that night when a fight broke out in the street. Witnesses said one of Agent’s family members managed to take a knife away from Doggett during the scuffle.

Later, an officer responding to another call found Doggett and his brother nearby. The officer noticed blood on Doggett’s clothing and a cut on his hand, leading to his detention. He was then taken to the hospital for treatment due to heavy blood loss.

Suspect’s Statement to Police

Doggett admitted to police that he knew Agent because he was dating Agent’s ex-wife. He also claimed Agent had been following him around town earlier that day and had tried to start fights on two occasions.

At the birthday party, Doggett alleged that Agent pulled up in a car, got out, and punched him in the face. Doggett said he struck back, then pulled a knife from his waistband and stabbed Agent “two or three times.” He further admitted to dragging Agent down the street before blacking out, according to the affidavit.

Current Status

Doggett was booked into the Angelina County Jail and is being held on a $300,000 bond. Court records have not yet confirmed when his first appearance will take place.

The fatal stabbing in Lufkin highlights how personal disputes can escalate into deadly violence. What began as a fight outside a birthday party ended with one man dead and another facing a murder charge. Authorities continue to investigate the case as Doggett remains behind bars awaiting his next court date.
