HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A METRO police sergeant is recovering after being seriously injured in a motorcycle crash while helping with a funeral escort in the Pearland area on Wednesday afternoon.

Crash Details

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the crash happened at the intersection of Cullen Boulevard and Fellows Road, just south of the Sam Houston Tollway. Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly to the scene.

The sergeant, who was riding a motorcycle, was part of a funeral procession heading south on Cullen when the collision occurred. Investigators said there was a gap in the procession, and a car attempted to turn, colliding with the motorcycle.

Injuries and Condition

The sergeant sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Sheriff Gonzalez later confirmed that he was in stable condition and is expected to survive.

“He has a long road ahead of him,” Major Anthony McConnell of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told reporters at the scene.

Investigation Underway

The sergeant was off duty at the time but was assisting with the funeral escort. Investigators are now reconstructing the crash to determine exactly what happened and whether criminal charges may be filed.

Traffic Impacts

Following the crash, southbound lanes of Cullen Boulevard were shut down at Presidents Drive, with traffic diverted through a nearby neighborhood. Northbound lanes remained open.
