A Florida man has been arrested after shocking home surveillance footage allegedly showed him choking a sleeping child in the middle of the night.
Suspect Identified in Child Abuse Case
Authorities said Dominic Fisher, 27, was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse. Investigators say Fisher was caught on video entering the child’s bedroom and placing the boy in a chokehold while he slept.
Disturbing Footage Released
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office released a 29-second clip of the incident, calling it “chilling.” In the footage, Fisher can allegedly be seen grabbing the child around the neck and holding him tightly while the boy flailed his legs in distress.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno condemned the act, saying:
“This video is beyond disturbing. I’m disgusted by this low-life and his senseless act against an innocent sleeping child. We will do everything we can to ensure this man faces the harshest penalties possible.”
Previous Abuse Allegations
According to the arrest affidavit, deputies responded to a home on August 26 after a report of child abuse. The boy’s mother had installed a hidden camera in his room after he previously complained—though vaguely—about not liking Fisher.
When she checked the footage, she allegedly saw Fisher choke the child at about 2 a.m. Investigators said the child had visible bruising on his neck that matched what was seen in the video.
The boy later told investigators that Fisher had also kicked him in the stomach and punched him in the neck while he was sleeping the previous night, claiming that “he does this often.” A sibling reportedly confirmed his account.
Evidence Collected
Police seized the surveillance camera and video as evidence. Investigators wrote in their report that Fisher was seen “suspending the victim in the air via the chokehold” while the child struggled to breathe.
When questioned by detectives, Fisher refused to give a statement and invoked his rights. Still, based on the video, witness accounts, and injuries observed, police charged him with child abuse.
Current Status
Fisher remains in custody as prosecutors prepare the case. The child, whose name has been withheld for privacy, is now safe and under protection.
