Wife of 35 Years Found Dead in Their Home
According to a press release from National City Police, 71-year-old Wanda Taylor was found dead in her home, allegedly stabbed by Trevino.
Ernest Taylor made the grim discovery upon returning from a painting project around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. He entered the house to find Trevino, a stranger, in the act of committing the crime.
Ernest Taylor’s Shocking Encounter
Ernest Taylor described the scene to San Diego-based NBC affiliate KNSD. “He was right there,” Ernest recalled, speaking of Trevino. “He was prancing up, mumbling crazy words… I just left.
And I saw my wife lying down underneath a blanket.” Ernest quickly called 911 as Trevino fled the scene, jumping out of a second-story window.
Police Response and Arrest
Police arrived within minutes at 2:15 p.m. and began searching the area. Using K-9 units and less-lethal bean bags, they apprehended Trevino, who was taken away in an ambulance before being booked into the county jail.
Security Camera Footage Captures Attack
Security cameras at the Taylors’ home captured footage of the attack, which began in the driveway. The footage shows Trevino arriving at the home around 10:30 a.m., shortly before Wanda Taylor left to take her dog to a vet appointment.
Ernest Taylor believes Trevino, who appeared to be posing as a solicitor, had no known connection to the family.
Murder Charges Filed Against Trevino
Trevino is facing several charges, including murder, burglary, and resisting an officer. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday but missed the hearing due to medical reasons. The arraignment has been rescheduled for August 25. Trevino is currently being held without bond.
Ernest Taylor’s Emotional Visit to Court
On Friday, Ernest Taylor attended a hearing at the San Diego Superior Court alongside friends and family. “I was hesitant of coming today, because of who I thought I might see,” Ernest shared.
“But when I saw my friends, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m glad I’m here,’ because I would have been like a lone soldier on an island without any support.”
