Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD) is preparing to adopt its budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year at its upcoming board meeting on August 25. The district is currently facing a projected $12.5 million budget shortfall, despite keeping the same tax rate as the previous year.

Budget Projections Show Shortfall

According to the district’s latest budget discussion on August 11, CCISD expects:

$429.3 million in expenses

$414.7 million in revenue

$2.1 million from other sources

This leaves the district $12.5 million short of balancing the books. These figures were presented by Chief Financial Officer Alice Benzaia, who confirmed that this will be the proposed budget up for adoption at the board meeting.

No Change in Tax Rate, But Lower Tax Bills for Some

The tax rate will remain at $0.9690 per $100 property valuation, the same as FY 2024–25. However, some homeowners may see lower tax bills.

For example:

A home with an average market value of $406,500 would owe around $2,140 in taxes at the current rate.

That’s about $350 less than last year’s average bill of $2,490, which was based on a slightly lower average market value of $397,000.

Still, it’s important to note that final tax amounts can vary depending on changes in property values across the district.

Key Takeaways for CCISD Residents

Here’s what local taxpayers and parents need to keep in mind:

The tax rate isn’t increasing, but your tax bill might still change based on property revaluation.

The district is working with a multi-million dollar funding gap, which may impact spending and services.

The board is expected to make a final decision on the budget during the August 25 board meeting.

With education costs rising and funding sources limited, the district will need to find creative solutions to address the shortfall while maintaining its standards in teaching, staffing, and student services.
