Key Projects Across Seven Texas Cities
The Texas Transportation Commission has announced the allocation of these funds for projects across seven cities, marking a major investment in the state’s aviation infrastructure. The initiatives include runway rehabilitations, airport layout plans, and technology upgrades, all aimed at enhancing the state’s air travel capabilities.
Major Beneficiaries: Huntsville and Galveston
Huntsville Municipal Airport is set to receive the largest share of the funding, with $5.6 million earmarked for runway pavement improvements. Scholes International Airport in Galveston will also benefit, securing $2.9 million for similar upgrades, ensuring safer and more efficient runways at both locations.
Smaller but Strategic Upgrades
In addition to the major projects, smaller, yet equally important, investments are planned. Brownwood Regional Airport will use $350,000 to create a new airport layout plan. Alpine-Casparis Municipal Airport is allocating $200,000 to relocate and upgrade its weather system, enhancing flight safety.
Funding Sources and Collaboration
The total $13,497,339 in funding comes from a combination of federal and state sources. This includes Federal non-primary entitlement funds, the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funds, State Aviation Facilities Grant funds, and contributions from the Texas Mobility Fund (TMF).
