LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Residents across Louisville and much of Kentucky will face sweltering heat through the weekend, with afternoon highs pushing into the upper 90s and dangerous heat index values nearing 107°F by Sunday.

The National Weather Service warns that conditions could become unsafe for prolonged outdoor activity, especially for vulnerable groups.

Scorching Temperatures Through the Weekend

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, Saturday’s high will climb near 97°F, with humidity making it feel closer to 103°F. Sunday will be even hotter, reaching 98°F, while light winds offer little relief.

Nighttime lows in the mid-70s will provide only minimal cooling, leaving homes without air conditioning particularly uncomfortable.

Fog and Storm Chances

Patchy morning fog could reduce visibility on roadways through both Saturday and Sunday mornings. A slight chance of thunderstorms enters the picture Saturday night but remains limited until Tuesday, when storms are more likely to develop across Jefferson County and surrounding areas.

Health and Safety Tips

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor work during peak afternoon hours, and check on neighbors without reliable cooling. Drivers are advised to be cautious during early morning commutes when fog may obscure rural roadways and interstates.

Forecast for the Coming Days

The heat wave is expected to persist into early next week, with Tuesday forecast to reach 98°F before storms offer some temporary relief. Additional advisories could be issued if heat indices remain above 105°F.
