A 47-year-old California man, Jason Brauner, has been arrested on charges of stealing thousands of dollars worth of surgical equipment and skin grafts from hospitals.
Brauner allegedly stole items valued at approximately $100,000 during June and July, using blue hospital scrubs and a surgical mask to blend in with hospital staff and avoid detection.
Investigation and Arrest
The thefts were first reported on July 9, when a hospital in Rancho Mirage called authorities after medical equipment went missing. Following an investigation, Brauner was identified as the suspect and linked to additional thefts at three other hospitals in the area.
On August 6, law enforcement tracked Brauner’s vehicle heading toward San Diego, and a search of his car uncovered stolen medical equipment and hospital apparel.
Discovery of More Stolen Items
Police later searched Brauner’s home in San Jacinto, where they found even more stolen goods, including $10,000 and $25,000 worth of medical supplies. Authorities believe Brauner may be involved in other similar hospital thefts across California.
Legal Charges and Release
Brauner has been charged with multiple counts of grand theft, burglary, and possession of stolen property. He was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center but posted a $100,000 bond on August 9 and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
