A Florida man, Sammie Underwood III, has been charged with nearly 20 felonies after allegedly shooting at his ex-girlfriend and hitting her 7-year-old son when he mistakenly believed she was with another man. The incident occurred on August 9 in Panama City, and Underwood was arrested two days later.

The Confrontation

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Underwood confronted his ex-girlfriend during a meetup at WS Crab House, accusing her of being with another man. Despite her denials, Underwood became enraged, prompting the woman to leave the restaurant with her two children.

The Pursuit and Shooting

Underwood allegedly followed the woman’s car and attempted to run them off the road. While driving alongside her vehicle, Underwood reportedly fired multiple rounds into the air before pulling up beside her car and brandishing a firearm.

One of the shots struck the woman’s 7-year-old son in the shoulder. The mother rushed the boy to a hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Fortunately, he is expected to recover.

Underwood’s Arrest

After the shooting, Underwood reportedly fled the scene. He was arrested two days later at an apartment, where police found narcotics in his possession. Additionally, Ricki Brown, 31, was arrested for allegedly helping Underwood flee and hide, as well as assisting him in disposing of the gun.

Brown faces charges of accessory after the fact, probation violation, and possession of marijuana.

Felony Charges Against Underwood

Underwood is facing 17 felony charges, including aggravated assault, aggravated battery, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and several drug charges. He is being held without bond at the Bay County Jail.
