Vermont residents are bracing for one final day of scorching heat, with temperatures and humidity pushing heat index values into the mid-80s to mid-90s. The Champlain Valley is expected to bear the brunt of the heat, prompting a Heat Advisory that will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the high humidity and warm temperatures will create dangerous conditions, particularly for those who spend extended periods outdoors.
Officials recommend limiting strenuous activities during peak heat hours, wearing light clothing, and taking frequent breaks in shaded areas.
Areas Most Affected:
Communities including Burlington, Middlebury, and St. Albans will experience the highest heat index readings, with urban areas likely to see reduced overnight cooling.
The elderly, young children, and outdoor workers are at the greatest risk of heat-related illnesses. Pet owners are also urged to avoid leaving animals in vehicles or exposed to direct sunlight.
Relief Expected Thursday:
Although temperatures will remain high today, relief is on the way with scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening. By Thursday, the weather will cool down, and more typical summer conditions will return later in the week.
Make sure to stay cool and take necessary precautions during the heat wave!
