On August 7, 2025, the Pearland Police Department responded to a burglary in progress at a residence in the 13800 block of Evening Wind Drive, located in Pearland, within Fort Bend County.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that the burglary had already occurred, and the suspect, a white male armed with a firearm, had already fled in a black Chevrolet sedan before the police could arrive.
Use of Technology in Identifying the Suspect
The Pearland Police Department quickly began using FLOCK License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras and surveillance footage to track the suspect’s vehicle.
The department’s Crime Analysts successfully identified the suspect’s vehicle, which allowed them to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to begin tracking the suspect’s movements.
Joint Efforts with Houston and Katy Police Departments
The Special Investigations Unit of the Pearland Police Department, with assistance from the Houston and Katy Police Departments, pursued the vehicle through Houston and Katy. As the suspect’s vehicle continued its route, the chase ended in Katy, Fort Bend County, where the suspect abandoned the car and fled on foot.
K9 Unit Tracks Down the Suspect
A Pearland Police K9 unit was deployed to assist in the search for the suspect. The K9 unit successfully located and apprehended the suspect, identified as David James Burns, in a nearby wooded area. Burns was taken into custody without further incident.
Arrest and Charges
Burns was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail on charges of Burglary of a Habitation and Evading by Vehicle. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
