A mother and her son from Staten Island, New York, have been arrested in Florida after being linked to a deadly street-racing crash that took place on June 29 on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. The crash resulted in the death of a 20-year-old passenger and left another individual seriously injured.
Fatal Street Racing Incident
Vilma Vneshta, 42, and her son, Alvi Limani, 20, were both taken into custody on July 17 in Miami. According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, Limani was driving a BMW X3 recklessly during a street race when he collided with two other vehicles.
The impact ejected two of his passengers from the vehicle, one of whom, 20-year-old Albion Hysenaj, tragically died at the scene. The other passenger, a 21-year-old, was seriously injured and hospitalized.
Charges and Alleged Fleeing Attempt
Following the incident, Limani allegedly fled the scene with another passenger, 19-year-old Emily Harrington, who was not ejected from the vehicle. Both Limani and Harrington reportedly fled on foot. Harrington was later arrested and charged with hindering, obstruction, and conspiracy to endanger another person.
Another individual involved in the street race, 23-year-old Jeter Ogando, was also charged with vehicular homicide, assault by auto, and endangering others after his vehicle, a BMW M5, was involved in the fatal crash.
Mother and Son Arrested in Miami
After the crash, Limani and his mother, Vneshta, allegedly flew from New Jersey to Miami, with plans to flee the country. They were arrested in Miami on July 17.
Following their arrests, they were extradited back to New Jersey to face charges. The pair were filmed by a TikTok user as they were escorted by law enforcement off the plane upon arrival in New Jersey.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Limani faces several charges, including aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and driving with a suspended license. His mother, Vneshta, has been charged with hindering the investigation.
All four individuals involved in the incident are scheduled to appear in court on August 28 for their initial hearings. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the street-racing crash and the events surrounding it.
