In a shocking and tragic case in Italy, Lorena Venier, a 61-year-old nurse, has confessed to murdering her 35-year-old son, Alessandro Venier, and dismembering his body with the assistance of his daughter-in-law, Mailyn Castro Monsalvo.
The gruesome discovery was made in the basement of the home Alessandro shared with his wife, mother, and infant daughter in Gemona del Friuli, a town located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.
The Crime and Confessions
According to reports from Italian news agencies ANSA, L’Unione Sarda, and the Daily Mail, the crime occurred on July 25 when Mailyn Castro Monsalvo called the police to confess her and Lorena’s involvement in Alessandro’s death.
Lorena admitted to the murder in a court appearance, claiming that she dismembered her son’s body into three pieces using a hacksaw and a sheet to manage the blood. She also stated that there were no blood splatters at the scene, which she claimed made the discovery less obvious to authorities.
Lorena and Mailyn allegedly planned the crime for months. According to Lorena, the motive behind the murder was Alessandro’s abusive behavior towards Mailyn.
Lorena claimed that her daughter-in-law had begged her for months to kill Alessandro due to ongoing violence and threats from him. Lorena described incidents in which her son would insult and violently beat Mailyn, downplay her postpartum depression, and make death threats towards her.
The Alleged Plan to Kill Alessandro
Authorities say that Lorena and Mailyn concocted a plan to sedate Alessandro before killing him. Lorena, who worked as a nurse, allegedly obtained insulin from the hospital and used it to inject her son along with a tranquilizer spiked in a glass of lemonade.
After Alessandro was rendered unconscious, the two women suffocated him with a pillow and strangled him using shoelaces. Once dead, they allegedly moved his body to the garage and covered it with quicklime to hide the smell.
In an attempt to cover their tracks, Lorena and Mailyn reportedly planned to use Alessandro’s recent statements about moving to Colombia as an explanation for his disappearance. The plan was to make it appear that Alessandro had left the country, but the women’s plan quickly unraveled after Mailyn confessed to the police.
Investigation and Charges
Mailyn, who is 30 years old and originally from Colombia, has been investigated for her role in instigating the murder of her husband, while Lorena has been charged with murder and concealing a body. Both women are currently under investigation, and the case continues to unfold.
Alessandro, who had previously expressed to friends that he was considering a move to Colombia, was reportedly in a volatile relationship with Mailyn, which ultimately escalated into this tragic event. His untimely death has left his infant daughter without a father and has shocked the local community.
