A Florida doctor, Dr. Thomas Wentzell, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading no contest to second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Linda Wentzell. The 72-year-old doctor admitted to suffocating his wife with a pillow during an argument at their home in Windermere, an upscale Orlando suburb.
The Murder and Initial Response
On December 2, 2025, police responded to the Wentzell’s home after receiving a report of Linda Wentzell’s death. Officers discovered her lying on her back in the master bedroom.
Initially, her husband claimed the injuries he sustained during the incident were from playing with the family dog, but authorities found his statements to be inconsistent with the physical evidence.
Detectives noted that Thomas Wentzell had cuts, bruises, and abrasions on his face, neck, and arms. Despite these injuries, officers did not arrest him immediately. However, just three days later, police responded to a report of suicidal threats made by Thomas Wentzell, prompting an interview at the police station.
Confession and Arrest
After being read his Miranda rights, Wentzell confessed to the murder, stating that he had suffocated Linda with a pillow. He explained that the attack was a spontaneous reaction during an argument the couple had earlier in the evening.
According to the affidavit, Thomas Wentzell said that he and Linda were the only two people inside the home at the time.
Following his confession, Thomas Wentzell was arrested and has remained in Orange County Jail since.

Neighbors of the Wentzells described the couple as having a history of arguments, with one neighbor mentioning, “It’s a very quiet community. The only arguments that I’ve ever heard have come from that house.”
