A routine traffic stop in Harris County on July 30 resulted in the arrest of a Texas City man, Toddrick Smith, who now faces several serious charges.

Smith, aged 37, was pulled over by Deputies Cartlidge and Gibson around 4:45 p.m. for a moving violation in the 500 block of El Dorado Boulevard. The deputies detected a strong smell of marijuana as they approached his vehicle, a black Infiniti.

Refusal to Comply and Arrest

When the deputies asked Smith to exit the vehicle, he initially refused, locking the doors and rolling up the window. After a brief standoff, Smith unlocked the doors but continued to refuse to exit.

Deputies were eventually forced to remove him from the vehicle, leading to the charge of Interfering with Public Duties, which was accepted by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Discovery of Drugs and Additional Charges

During transportation to the station, Smith discarded drug paraphernalia inside the patrol vehicle. A subsequent search revealed that he was carrying methamphetamine on his person. As a result, Smith now faces additional charges of Tampering with Evidence and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

This arrest highlights how a simple traffic stop can escalate, resulting in multiple charges. Toddrick Smith’s actions not only led to interference with law enforcement duties but also brought drug-related charges against him. Authorities continue to process the case as it moves forward.
