Authorities in Pennsylvania are taking a significant step to help residents by sending out a new round of checks through the Pennsylvania Money Match program.
This time, eligible individuals will receive $500 stimulus payments as part of an effort to return unclaimed property. The total amount being returned is more than $9.2 million.
This program is designed to make it easier for people to get back property or funds that they didn’t know they were entitled to. Treasurer Stacy Garrity, along with several lawmakers, is encouraging residents to keep an eye on their mailboxes, as these checks are “real money” that can be used for everyday needs.
What Is the Pennsylvania Money Match Program?
The Pennsylvania Money Match program is run by the Pennsylvania Department of the Treasury. It aims to automatically return certain unclaimed properties to their rightful owners.
The program was created after a law was passed by the General Assembly to help people recover money or property that they may not have even known they were owed.
The biggest change with Money Match is that it removes the usual paperwork and effort citizens have to go through when claiming unclaimed property. Instead of having to search for their property and submit forms, Money Match automatically identifies eligible owners and sends them checks directly.
How to Apply for the $500 Stimulus Payment
If you’re interested in receiving the $500 stimulus payment, you will need to create an account on the official Pennsylvania Treasury website.
After registering, you will be asked to provide some documentation, such as proof of your address or Social Security number. The application will be reviewed, and you can expect to get a payment confirmation within 45 days.
When Will You Get Your Unclaimed Property Refund?
Checks from the Pennsylvania Money Match program are sent out quarterly. Recently, the second round of payments, which included 39,045 checks, was sent out. The next round is set to send out about 40,000 notification letters in August.
The Pennsylvania Money Match program is a great way for residents to receive unclaimed funds without the usual hassle. If you’re eligible, keep an eye on your mailbox for a $500 check that could be used to help with everyday expenses.
