Every year, the state of Alaska gives money to its residents through the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD). This unique program helps Alaskans benefit from the oil revenues the state earns.
In 2025, more than 600,000 people are expected to receive a payment of $1,702 each, adding around $1.02 billion to the state’s economy. Let’s understand how this program works, how much money people will get in 2025, and when the payments will be made.
What Is the Alaska PFD Program?
The Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) started in 1976. The main aim of this program is to share the wealth that comes from Alaska’s natural resources, especially oil. This yearly payment goes to residents who meet certain rules.
In simple words, when Alaska earns money from its oil business, it gives a part of that money to the people living in the state. This helps people cover their living costs and supports the local economy.
How Much Will Alaskans Get in 2025?
For 2025, the total amount of the PFD payment is $1,702 per person. This amount includes two parts:
Base Dividend: $1,403.83
This is the main part of the payment and comes from investments made using the money in the Alaska Permanent Fund.
Energy Bonus: $298.17
This extra amount is added to help people manage the high costs of heating and inflation. Winters in Alaska are very cold, and heating homes is expensive, so this bonus makes a big difference.
The 2025 PFD amount is nearly 30% more than the 2023 amount, which was $1,312. This increase happened because the oil industry performed well and lawmakers decided to give more to residents.
When Will PFD Checks Be Paid?
The PFD checks for 2025 are being sent out in four different batches based on when a person’s application was confirmed as “Eligible-Not Paid.” Here’s the schedule:
First Payment: June 18, 2025
Covers those marked eligible by June 11.
Second Payment: July 17, 2025
Covers applications marked eligible by July 9.
Third Payment: August 21, 2025
This is the biggest batch. It includes those marked eligible by August 13.
Final Payments: September 11 and October 23, 2025
These are for late or pending applications that are approved later.
Who Will Get Paid in the August 2025 Batch?
The August 21 batch will include people whose applications, either from 2024 or earlier years, were marked “Eligible-Not Paid” by August 13. It also includes those who had pending or disputed applications but were later approved.
To receive the PFD in any of the payment batches, including August, a person must meet certain conditions.
What Are the PFD Eligibility Rules?
To qualify for the 2025 PFD, a person must:
Have lived in Alaska for the entire year of 2023.
Not have claimed residency in another state.
Not have stayed outside Alaska for more than 180 days in 2023 unless for approved reasons.
Not have been convicted of a felony in the previous year.
Have filed their PFD application between January 1 and March 31, 2025.
You can check your application status on the official “myPFD” portal at pfd.alaska.gov.
The Alaska PFD continues to be one of the most successful state programs in the U.S. It not only helps residents by giving them a direct share of oil revenues but also boosts the economy.
In 2025, over 600,000 Alaskans will receive $1,702 each—a big support in times of high inflation and energy costs. Those who followed the eligibility rules and applied on time can look forward to receiving their payments in one of the scheduled batches.
