A Florida man has been sentenced after it was discovered that he had been married to three women simultaneously, without any of them knowing about the others.
Henry Betsey Jr., 50, pleaded “nolo contendere” to felony bigamy in May, meaning he neither admitted nor denied the charge but accepted the consequences. This week, he was sentenced to two years of probation, according to Hernando County court records, and will be registered as a convicted felon.
Betsey’s marriage to Michele Narens in November 2022 seemed to start like any other, according to Narens, who met him on Match.com. After a whirlwind romance, they married within three weeks. However, everything changed when Narens learned that Betsey was still married to another woman.
Brandy Allen, who married Betsey in February 2022, had also met him on a dating app—Stir, a platform for single parents. Allen described their marriage as being rushed through a courthouse in just 15 minutes, with no flags raised about Betsey’s previous marriages.
But even before Allen, Betsey had married Tonya Betsey in November 2020 after meeting on Tinder. Tonya later realized what her husband had done, and it was she who reached out to Michele to reveal that they were all married to the same man. “I had no idea she was still married to him,” Michele said, shocked by the revelation.
Betsey was arrested on October 23, 2024, when he voluntarily turned himself in at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. During his arrest, he reportedly admitted that he had married these women for their money, not love. According to Brandy Allen, the day of their marriage, Betsey insisted they open a joint bank account.
In court, Betsey apologized to the women and others affected, but Michele Betsey did not believe his apology was sincere. “The fact that he is now a convicted felon, that speaks mountains. And I feel like that is vindication on our parts,” she said. “Do I think that he has any remorse? Absolutely not.”
Betsey has filed for divorce from Tonya and is working to annul his marriages to Brandy and Michele. The case has left a trail of broken trust, with the women now seeking justice and closure after being deceived by a man they once trusted.
