As July comes to a close, residents in Alaska are getting ready for a new round of financial relief. A $1,700 stimulus check has been confirmed for August, and the payment date for one group of qualifying citizens has already been announced. If you live in Alaska and meet certain criteria, you could be receiving one of these payments soon.
What Is the Program?
The payments are part of Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) program, which was launched in 1980. The PFD program is designed to help Alaska residents financially by providing annual dividends funded by the state’s oil revenue. Nearly 600,000 Alaskans benefit from this program each year, and it also contributes to the state’s economy.
While the PFD program benefits all eligible residents, the payments are based on specific requirements. These checks are a way to reward Alaska residents for staying in the state and contributing to its economy.
Who Qualifies for the $1,700 Stimulus Checks?
To be eligible for the August payment, you must meet the following requirements:
No legal history: You must not have been convicted of a felony or been incarcerated at any time during 2024.
Residency: You must have been a resident of Alaska for the entire 2024 calendar year, with the intent to remain in Alaska indefinitely.
Absence limits: You must not have been out of the state for more than 180 consecutive days in 2024.
No foreign residency: You must not have claimed residency or benefits from any other state or country since December 31, 2023.
Application deadline: You must have applied for the 2024 dividend before March 31, 2025.
If you meet all these criteria, you’ll be eligible for a $1,702 stimulus check, which includes:
An annual dividend of $1,440
An energy relief bonus of $262
The payment will be issued based on the method you chose during your application, either direct deposit or a mailed paper check. This is the final round of payments for 2025, with previous rounds already having been distributed earlier in the year.
Confirmed Payment Date for August
The final group of eligible Alaskans will receive their payments on August 21, 2025. This round of payments will be for those whose application status is marked as “Eligible-Not Paid” on August 13, 2025.
If you’re unsure of your status or need to make any changes, follow these steps to check or update your information:
Log in to the myPFD option on the Alaska Department of Revenue’s website.
Verify your address and update it if needed.
Submit the Change of Address Form to a designated office if required.
How to Apply for Next Year’s PFD
If you didn’t apply this year, you can apply for next year’s PFD dividend between January 1 and March 31, 2026. Simply be a permanent resident of Alaska, and you could qualify for financial relief in the form of the PFD program.
Other States Offering Stimulus Payments
While Alaska is known for its unique Permanent Fund Dividend program, other states have also introduced federal programs to provide residents with financial relief, especially in response to rising inflation. Make sure to keep up with announcements in your state to see if you’re eligible for other stimulus programs.
For now, Alaskans can look forward to receiving their $1,700 payments in August, helping them navigate the ongoing economic challenges.
