A shocking case from Pennsylvania has come to light, where a couple is accused of keeping a child locked in a shed for almost four months.

What Happened in Reinholds, Pennsylvania?
Police say Daryl Sensenig (41) and Grace Sensenig (42), a couple from Reinholds—a small community about 70 miles west of Philadelphia—forced a young family member to live in a wooden shed as a form of punishment. The child was reportedly kept in this shed on and off over a period of nearly four months.
The couple is now facing serious charges, including felony counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The local police department in Ephrata uncovered this case earlier this week after someone called about a domestic dispute.
How the Police Found Out
Officers visited the couple’s property at 895 Laurel Ridge Road around 5 p.m. on a Wednesday. When they reached the scene, they began investigating the situation and soon discovered that a young boy, who had recently returned from a long-term boys’ camp, was being mistreated.
Police say the child was being punished for what the couple called “inappropriate behaviours.” But instead of using fair and safe ways to discipline him, they allegedly locked him in a shed with poor living conditions.
The Poor Living Conditions
According to a criminal complaint filed in court, the boy was only allowed to shower once a week inside the main house. The wooden shed had no proper water supply, and he was forced to use a water hose outside the house to get running water.
He wasn’t allowed to use the indoor toilets often and had to relieve himself outside. On top of that, he had to use money from his part-time job just to buy food for himself. The complaint also mentions that he was rarely given proper food, water, shelter, or other basic needs.
Accusations of Physical Abuse
On the same day the police were called, an argument broke out between Daryl Sensenig and the child. Daryl is accused of physically assaulting the boy by tackling him and pressing on his neck.
The police believe both Daryl and Grace were responsible for this ongoing mistreatment.

Right now, the child is safe and staying with extended family members while Lancaster County Children and Youth Agency continues its investigation.
Daryl and Grace Sensenig have both been charged. Their bail was set at $30,000 each, which they have paid. They were released and are expected to appear for a court hearing on August 13 in Lancaster County.
