In the wake of the devastating July 4 floods that hit Kerrville, Texas, the local community has been coming together to help the animals affected by the disaster.
Among those leading the charge is an inspiring young girl, Kamryn Balfour, who turned her passion for baking into a way to help animals in need.
By selling cookies to raise funds for Kerrville Pets Alive! and the Texas A&M veterinary team, Kamryn’s actions show that no matter your age, you can make a big difference.
Kamryn’s Kravings: A Heartfelt Effort to Help Animals
When 11-year-old Kamryn Balfour saw the heartbreaking news about the flood’s impact on Kerrville, she knew she had to do something.
Having visited the area often and made friends at Camp Kickapoo, Kamryn had a special connection to Kerrville. She quickly decided to use her love for baking as a way to support those in need, especially the many pets that had been displaced.
Kamryn set up a summer business called Kamryn’s Kravings, making and selling homemade cookies. She hoped that the proceeds from her cookie sales could help fund the rescue efforts for the pets who had been affected by the floods.
What started as a small idea quickly grew into a large-scale effort, with Kamryn receiving over 1,400 cookie orders from people across the country.
Raising Funds and Giving Back to Kerrville
Thanks to a family friend who helped her use a professional kitchen, Kamryn was able to bake and fill thousands of cookie orders. Her efforts raised an impressive $7,000 for Kerrville Pets Alive! and the Texas A&M veterinary team.
These funds were used to care for and treat pets, especially service and working dogs that were affected by the flood.
Kamryn’s donation will go a long way in supporting the ongoing recovery efforts in Kerrville. She is scheduled to visit the Kerrville Pets Alive! nonprofit organization this Friday to present her donation in person.
She’ll also spend time at the shelter, providing love and support to the animals currently staying there. Kamryn’s kindness and dedication to the cause show that even small actions can make a big impact.
Inspiration for the Future
Kamryn’s selfless efforts have inspired not only her community but also her family. Her mother shares that this experience has sparked Kamryn’s interest in entrepreneurship, particularly when it comes to using business to support charitable causes.
Although Kamryn jokingly says she may have had enough of baking cookies for now, she’s already thinking of other ways to help others in the future.
Kamryn’s story is a powerful reminder that even young people can have a huge impact on their communities. Her creativity, kindness, and drive to help animals in need have set an example for many, proving that anyone, no matter their age, can make a difference.
Kamryn Balfour’s story is a wonderful example of how a simple idea can turn into something much bigger, especially when it’s fueled by passion and a desire to help.
