A tragic argument over a long-running affair turned deadly in Florida, after a 69-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his wife’s lover in a public parking lot. The shocking incident happened outside a flea market in Miami and has now led to serious murder charges.
Man Accused of Shooting Lover in Flea Market Parking Lot
Omar Rene Aguila, 69, has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting a man in the parking lot of the Northside Shopping Center in Miami on July 12. According to police, the shooting happened after a heated argument between the two men.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, had reportedly been in an affair with Aguila’s wife since 2019. Aguila only found out about the relationship in April 2024, and asked his wife to end it.
However, the situation escalated just days before the shooting when the victim reportedly showed up at Aguila’s home, leading to a confrontation.
Heated Argument Turns Deadly
On the day of the shooting, Aguila was at the flea market with his wife and son. Reports say the victim came there to drop off food to a friend, but also tried to speak with Aguila’s wife. That’s when Aguila went up to the victim’s car, and an argument began.
Police say within seconds, Aguila pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting the man multiple times. The entire incident was allegedly caught on surveillance camera, which was reviewed by detectives.
Victim Dies at the Hospital
After the shooting, paramedics arrived quickly and rushed the victim to the hospital. Sadly, the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His name has been kept private for now by the authorities.
Initially, police let Aguila go after he claimed self-defense, saying the victim had a gun in his car. But after further investigation, detectives found no weapon on the victim, making Aguila’s self-defense claim questionable.
Aguila Not Allowed to Own a Gun
One major issue investigators found was that Aguila is a convicted felon, which means he is legally banned from owning or carrying a gun. Because of this, he now also faces an additional charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police arrested Aguila on Thursday, and he is now being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami without bond. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
