A mass shooting at a bustling food market in Bangkok, Thailand, has resulted in multiple fatalities. The incident occurred around 12:38 p.m. local time on Monday, July 28, at the Or Tor Kor market, located on Phahon Yothin Road in Chatuchak District.

Details of the Incident

The local police of Bang Sue responded quickly after receiving reports of a shooting that led to several deaths. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of three security guards and a woman vendor.

Two other women were found injured and were immediately rushed to Phyathai Phahol Hospital for medical treatment. The authorities also advised the public to avoid the area until it was declared safe.

Later, police discovered the suspected shooter dead on a bench, believed to have died by suicide. He was found wearing a black T-shirt, camouflage shorts, and carrying a rucksack.

Investigation and Motive

An investigation into the incident revealed that the shooter had previously worked as a security guard at the market. Reports suggest that he had a personal motive for the attack, with a history of conflicts at the market.

In 2019, he allegedly had a relationship with a vendor at the market, which led to a dispute with a co-worker.

Though the shooting took place near a collection point designed to help victims of the Thai-Cambodian border conflict, police believe the motive was not related to this.

Deputy police chief of Bangkok’s Bang Sue district, Worapat Sukthai, confirmed to the media that the incident was being treated as a mass shooting, and investigations into the motive were ongoing.

The tragic event highlights a growing concern over safety in public spaces. As the authorities continue to investigate, they urge the public to stay informed and cautious in areas with heightened security risks.
