A 26-year-old woman from Michigan, Afeni Badu Muhammad, has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly killing her manager and friend, Jennifer Harris, at a McDonald’s in Eastpointe.

The stabbing followed an argument that led to Harris sending Muhammad home early from work. This violent incident has shocked the local community, with the defendant now facing serious charges.

The Argument and Fatal Stabbing

On July 10, around 7:55 a.m., officers responded to a McDonald’s in the 17000 block of 9 Mile Road following a report of a stabbing. Upon investigation, authorities found that the conflict began when Jennifer Harris, Muhammad’s manager, sent her home early from her shift after a dispute.

Later, Muhammad allegedly returned to the restaurant, this time armed with a knife. She entered through a back entrance, wearing a hooded mask, and proceeded to stab Harris multiple times.

The Incident Unfolds

A customer at the drive-thru, witnessing the attack, fired a shot into the air in an attempt to stop Muhammad. The suspect attempted to flee, but the customer gave chase and detained her until police arrived at the scene. Despite the efforts to prevent the crime, Harris was rushed to the hospital but tragically died from her injuries.

Muhammad’s Confession and Legal Proceedings

Following her arrest, Muhammad confessed to the crime. She admitted to having the intention to kill Harris, stating that after being sent home, she went to a nearby park, got a knife from her car, and returned to stab her manager.

During a probable cause hearing, prosecutors revealed that Muhammad had stabbed Harris up to 15 times with a knife longer than three inches. The assault resulted in Harris’ death.

Background and Prior Incidents

This is not the first time Muhammad has faced violent charges. She had been convicted of a separate stabbing three years prior, for which she received a suspended sentence and one year of probation.

In addition, Muhammad had posted videos on her Instagram page, claiming that she had issues with Harris at work. In the videos, she expressed frustration with her manager, accusing Harris of bullying her and disrespecting staff members.

Mental Evaluation and Court Appearance

At a court hearing, Muhammad stated that she objected to being referred for a mental evaluation, but the judge ordered it. Muhammad’s defense attorney requested the evaluation to assess her competency and culpability.

Muhammad is currently being held on a $25 million bond. A hearing scheduled for July 30 has been removed from the docket, with a review set for September 3.

This shocking case of workplace violence has drawn attention to the dangers of unresolved workplace conflicts and the importance of handling disputes peacefully. As the legal proceedings continue, the community and family of Jennifer Harris are left to cope with the loss of a beloved manager.
