A Brazos County district court jury has found Robert Lockett Jr., a 40-year-old man from Galena Park, guilty of possessing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a Bryan Head Start facility. The incident took place in February 2021, and as a result of the conviction, Lockett has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
The Case and Conviction
Lockett’s trial concluded with the jury’s guilty verdict, and the presiding judge issued a 40-year prison sentence for the offense. Prosecutors highlighted that Lockett, who they allege is affiliated with a gang, was caught with methamphetamine in close proximity to a Head Start facility, a factor that significantly influenced the sentencing.
A Long History of Legal Issues
Court records indicate that Lockett has a lengthy criminal history, with multiple pending trials for serious felony charges. He faces five felony trials related to arrests stretching back more than a decade.
These charges include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, family violence assault causing bodily injury, and violations of a protection order, all from different incidents over the past several years.
Lockett’s criminal record also includes multiple drug-related offenses. These include two separate charges for possessing controlled substances following arrests in February 2021 and November 2014.
In addition to the felony cases, Lockett is also facing misdemeanor charges for marijuana possession from arrests made in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Robert Lockett’s 40-year prison sentence marks a significant moment in his lengthy criminal career. His multiple pending trials reflect a history of violence and drug-related offenses. With these legal challenges still ahead, Lockett’s future remains uncertain as he faces further charges in the coming months.
