A violent and bizarre series of events unfolded in San Antonio, Texas, where James Andrew Woerner, 38, is now in jail after allegedly assaulting his mother and later threatening and attacking law enforcement officers who arrived to arrest him.
Woerner is facing several charges, including aggravated assault against a public servant and obstruction or retaliation.
The Attack on His Mother
The disturbing incident began on Friday when Woerner reportedly broke into his 73-year-old mother’s home and demanded that she withdraw money from an ATM. According to court documents, the elderly woman refused, causing Woerner to become enraged.
He allegedly threatened to burn his mother alive before forcing her into a car. As he drove, Woerner reportedly hit her and threatened to crash the vehicle, intending to kill both of them. In a desperate attempt to escape, the woman jumped out of the moving car.
Woerner’s father, concerned for his wife’s safety, contacted the San Antonio Police Department, providing them with a tip about his son’s dangerous behavior. The tip reportedly included a warning that Woerner planned to throw “nitric acid” at the officers when they arrived.
Woerner Attacks Officers
The following day, law enforcement officers responded to the scene at the 9000 block of East Sonterra Boulevard, where Woerner was hiding. As they arrived to arrest him, Woerner allegedly threw an “acidic substance” at the officers, hitting one officer and causing the substance to sizzle on the ground.
Authorities confirmed the substance was dangerous, though further details about the exact composition were not provided.
In the midst of this chaos, Woerner is also accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at the officers while shouting, “everyone is going to die.” Fearing further contamination from the acidic substance, officers were forced to retreat, but Woerner managed to barricade himself in one of the apartment complex buildings.
The Arrest and Injuries
Despite his efforts to flee, Woerner was eventually apprehended by police. Three officers suffered minor injuries during the altercation but are expected to recover fully.
Woerner was arrested and is now facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault against a public servant and injury to the elderly. He has been held at the Bexar County Jail since Saturday.
The events surrounding James Woerner’s violent outburst have shocked the San Antonio community. From attacking his elderly mother to assaulting law enforcement officers, Woerner’s actions have led to a serious criminal case.
Authorities continue to investigate, and Woerner will likely face additional charges as the case moves forward.
