A 21-year-old man in California, Audrik Matevosian, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his 75-year-old boss, Robert “Bob” Boyajian. Authorities claim that Matevosian, who had worked as an IT technician for Boyajian, premeditated the killing after purchasing a body bag from Amazon a week before the murder.
The Discovery of the Crime
The Madera County Sheriff’s Office received a welfare check request on Boyajian from one of his employees on July 14, after the elderly real estate professional failed to show up for an appointment. It was described as unusual since Boyajian had a consistent routine.
Upon arriving at his home, deputies discovered Boyajian’s car and belongings, including his briefcase and Apple Watch, but his cellphone, wallet, and bedding were missing. There were no clear signs of foul play, but the situation seemed out of character.
Suspicious Behavior and Investigation
When deputies spoke to Matevosian, he helped them access Boyajian’s home security system but failed to provide any useful footage. He then directed authorities to a closet where he claimed a DVR should be, but it was missing. This raised suspicions.
Authorities found further clues after analyzing Boyajian’s financial records. Surveillance footage from an ATM in Clovis, California, showed Matevosian withdrawing $1,000 from Boyajian’s account, which led to his further involvement in the case.
The Search and Matevosian’s Confession
On July 16, investigators executed a search warrant at Matevosian’s home, where they found two firearms, one of which was reported stolen, and the other belonging to Boyajian. Matevosian later confessed to the crime during questioning.
Initially, he claimed that Boyajian had committed suicide or asked him to assist in ending his life. However, he eventually admitted to killing Boyajian in a premeditated attack and then burying his body in the Mojave Desert.
Matevosian confessed to using Boyajian’s ATM card after the murder to withdraw the $1,000 and stated that he had planned the crime due to personal resentment towards Boyajian and for financial gain.
Details of the Murder and Investigation
Authorities learned that Matevosian had purchased a body bag from Amazon at least a week before the murder, and he rented a vehicle to transport Boyajian’s body to the Mojave Desert.
Investigators followed his instructions and found the body where he said it would be, in a cave in the Mojave National Preserve. The victim’s wallet was later recovered from Matevosian’s gym locker in Fresno.
Matevosian is currently being held without bond and faces charges of first-degree murder with special circumstances and grand theft. His preliminary court hearing is scheduled for July 28. This tragic case highlights the extreme measures someone took to carry out a premeditated murder and steal from the victim.
