According to Galveston Police Chief Doug Balli, the pursuit began early in the morning in southeast Houston when the driver of the stolen truck refused to stop for police.
The chase spanned 30 miles along the Gulf Freeway, with multiple law enforcement agencies involved. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly fired shots while traveling down the freeway.

The chase ended in Galveston, where the suspect exited the vehicle on Broadway. The newly released video shows a group of officers approaching the suspect with their weapons drawn.
Chief Balli explained that, after getting out of the truck, the suspect opened fire at the officers. In the video, law enforcement can be seen shielding themselves from the suspect’s gunfire.
Suspect’s Death and Investigation
Tragically, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Chief Balli confirmed that no officers or civilians were injured during the incident. However, it remains unclear which agency fired the fatal shots, as well as how many officers were involved in returning fire.
The investigation is ongoing, and ABC13 has requested the suspect’s identity and whether he had a criminal record. However, law enforcement is keeping those details confidential for now.
