A 20-year-old Minnesota man, Deshon Gregory, is reportedly still on the run following a fatal shooting that took the life of one person and put several others in danger.
Gregory is facing serious charges, including second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, in connection with the tragic incident in Minneapolis on Monday.
The shooting occurred after an argument over $40, according to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime. The victim, 30-year-old Lafayette Anthony Collaso, was fatally shot, and the event left others in immediate danger.
The Events Leading Up to the Shooting
The situation began when Gregory, who had once been involved with a woman, showed up at her home demanding repayment of $40 that he had lent her. Police reports suggest that Gregory had borrowed the money during a date, but tensions escalated when he began demanding it back.
On the evening of the shooting, Gregory arrived at the woman’s home with another woman, where an argument quickly developed.
The woman had reportedly already encountered Gregory earlier that day, along with another man who was carrying a gun and threatening people. This man was taken into custody later that day.
When Gregory returned that evening, the woman and her two sisters stepped outside to see what was happening. The situation turned hostile when the woman with Gregory allegedly attempted to fight one of the sisters.
Gregory then reportedly threatened the sisters, saying, “Don’t touch her, I am gonna blow at you,” before pulling out his gun and firing at the group. Tragically, Collaso, who had been sitting on the front porch, was struck and killed.
Gregory’s Actions and Flight From the Scene
Surveillance cameras captured the shooting incident. After the shooting, Gregory and the woman with him fled the scene. Authorities have not yet identified the woman who was with Gregory at the time. The shooting also took place while two children were inside the home, which further heightened the severity of the situation.
Gregory, who was under court supervision at the time of the incident, had two pending domestic violence cases against him. These charges may play a role in his sentencing if he is convicted of the current charges.
