A 62-year-old woman from Florida is facing multiple charges after allegedly attacking first responders who came to assist her during a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred on July 8 in West Park, Florida, when Elizabeth Hixson called the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report that her husband, who was intoxicated, had refused to change her foot bandage and had gone out drinking instead.
A Dispute That Escalated
According to police reports, Hixson claimed that a fight broke out between her and her husband, who is 67 years old. She stated that she had grabbed her husband’s hair during the altercation, and in response, he pushed her hand away, causing her to scratch him.
Hixson also mentioned that her husband believed she was experiencing mental health issues.
When the deputies arrived at the scene, they spoke to both parties involved. Hixson allegedly admitted to scratching her husband during the struggle. Firefighters and police then attempted to move her to the hospital on a stretcher for medical assistance. However, things quickly escalated when Hixson began resisting their efforts.
Attacking First Responders
As the deputies tried to handcuff Hixson, she reportedly braced herself and attempted to bite one of the officers. The deputy managed to avoid being bitten but continued to struggle with Hixson while attempting to restrain her. The situation worsened when Hixson allegedly struck a firefighter and tried to hinder his duties.
The arrest report also mentioned that the address had received numerous calls for medical assistance since June. However, this was the first call involving domestic violence. Police found no active warrants or protection orders for Hixson.
Facing Serious Charges
Hixson was arrested and now faces felony charges, including third-degree battery, resisting an officer with violence, and battery on a firefighter. As of now, there is no listed court date for her case.
This case highlights how tensions in domestic situations can quickly escalate, leading to unexpected confrontations and legal consequences. It also underscores the important role of first responders, who often find themselves in the middle of these volatile situations.
