La Marque, Texas – Former La Marque City Manager J.B. Pritchett is under investigation after five warrants were issued for his arrest. The charges include arson and falsifying job applications. The police are currently waiting for Pritchett to turn himself in, though it is unclear when this will happen.
Charges Against J.B. Pritchett
The charges against Pritchett include serious offenses such as arson, making false military records, claiming unearned degrees, filing a false report to a peace officer, and tampering with evidence.
These accusations stem from an incident on July 3, where Pritchett allegedly vandalized and set fire to his own fence. The fence had offensive graffiti spray-painted on it, including the phrase “Lowry Rules,” referencing La Marque City Councilman Joseph Lowry.
Police later found materials inside Pritchett’s home that were used to start the fire. Investigators also revealed that Lowry had reported Pritchett for lying on his job applications about military service and educational qualifications.
The Allegations and Pritchett’s Resignation
Pritchett had worked in various roles for the city of La Marque, including as Public Relations Manager, Deputy City Manager, and eventually City Manager. The investigation uncovered that Pritchett had falsely claimed military service and had made misleading claims about his educational background.
La Marque Police Chief Aragon stated that there were no records of Pritchett serving in the military and emphasized the importance of honesty in both military service and education.
The City Council accepted Pritchett’s resignation last week, but now with five warrants issued, the police are urging him to come forward. Chief Aragon has expressed that Pritchett needs to “face the music” and deal with the charges against him.
Pritchett’s Response
In a brief phone conversation with KPRC 2 reporter Corley Peel, Pritchett declined to comment on the charges but mentioned that he plans to share his side of the story in the future. He also confirmed that he is working with his attorney.
