A Mississippi woman has turned herself in to the police after allegedly shooting her boyfriend dead and stealing his car. Aziza Young, 35, surrendered to authorities on Monday with the help of a local newspaper, the Natchez Democrat, which she contacted before the act, expressing fear over how her surrender would go.
The Incident and Investigation
Young is accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend, 45-year-old Adrione Triggs, in what police describe as a domestic dispute. According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, the shooting was determined to be “calculated” by Young.
She fled the scene in Triggs’ car after the shooting, but investigators say witness statements contradict her claims of self-defense.
Young told the Natchez Democrat that she shot Triggs because he threatened to kill her. However, Chief Wade refuted this, stating that witnesses at the scene reported the situation differently. “She was not defending herself,” Wade said, based on the accounts of those who witnessed the events.
Furthermore, investigators found evidence that Young tried to move Triggs’ body, a move that suggests she was attempting to create a narrative to fit her version of events.
Turning Herself In
Before surrendering to the authorities, Young reached out to the Natchez Democrat, fearing what might happen when she gave herself up. Following this tip, deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, along with Natchez police officers, arrived at the location where Young was waiting.
She was taken into custody without incident. Sheriff Travis Patten mentioned that Young was visibly scared and trembling, unsure of what would happen next.
Young’s lawyer maintains that she acted in self-defense, claiming the altercation escalated to a point where she feared for her life.

During a court hearing on Wednesday, a police officer involved in the case explained that witnesses saw Young and Triggs arrive together at the home before the shooting. The two were reportedly arguing when Young left the house, went to Triggs’ car, and allegedly retrieved a gun after putting on a latex glove.
She waited for Triggs to come out of the house, at which point she shot him in the back. The officer testified that after a struggle for the weapon, Young shot Triggs several more times before fleeing in his car.
Charges and Bail
Young faces charges of murder and car theft. Her bond has been set at $1,025,000—$1 million for the murder charge and an additional $25,000 for allegedly stealing Triggs’ car. She is expected to be returned to Jackson to face further legal proceedings.
