The Incident
At 3:03 a.m., police were called to the scene, where they found the toddler suffering from critical injuries. She was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where her condition remains critical. Authorities confirmed that the injuries were severe, and the girl is currently on life support.
The victim’s aunt, who spoke to WUSA9, expressed heartbreak and described the incident as devastating. “I can’t say no more. It’s heartbreaking,” she said, adding that the victim is her “favorite aunt.”
According to the aunt, the shooting occurred around the same time fireworks were being set off nearby, making it difficult for those in the area to distinguish between the sound of fireworks and gunshots. The sound of glass shattering from the car’s windows was the first indication that something was wrong.
