A man has been arrested and charged after a carjacking incident involving a 93-year-old woman in Galveston, Texas. Doug Ancell, 66, was taken into custody by the Galveston Police Department and faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Carjacking Incident
The incident occurred on Thursday when Ancell confronted the elderly woman at the Bob Lyons Post Office, located at 59th and Broadway. He stole her walker and then fled the scene in her SUV. Fortunately, the woman did not suffer any injuries during the incident.
Pursuit and Arrest
Following the crime, police quickly responded and spoke to the victim. The stolen vehicle was soon spotted heading north on I-45. Officers attempted to pull it over, but Ancell refused to stop, leading them on a brief chase.
The pursuit ended when the SUV overheated and came to a halt in a Webster parking lot. Police arrested Ancell and took him to the Galveston County Jail, where he is being held.
This disturbing act of carjacking was swiftly addressed by the police, and thankfully, the elderly woman did not sustain harm. Doug Ancell now faces charges related to the crime, and the case highlights the importance of ensuring safety for all, especially senior citizens.
