A Michigan woman has been charged in connection with a tragic incident where she allegedly hit a mother and her two children with her car, killing one child and seriously injuring the others. This occurred during a celebratory festival, the Livonia Spree, in the city of Livonia, Michigan.
The Tragic Incident
On the evening of June 29, around 10:45 p.m., a mother, Tia Robinson, and her twin children were struck by a vehicle while crossing the road during the Livonia Spree festival. The crash occurred at the intersection of Lyndon Street and Merriman Road.
According to the Livonia Police Department, the traffic signals at the time were flashing red for Lyndon Street and yellow for Merriman Road. Despite the red signal, the vehicle that hit the family did not stop and fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Witnesses rushed to help, removing the injured children from the roadway. Unfortunately, Khalil Robinson, the 3-year-old son, succumbed to his injuries and passed away. His mother, Tia Robinson, and his twin sister suffered critical injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Charges Against Tammy Sandoval
The woman accused of hitting the family is 55-year-old Tammy Sandoval, who was later identified by police. Sandoval has been charged with several offenses.
According to court records from Wayne County, Michigan, she faces one count of operating a vehicle while her license was suspended, revoked, or denied, resulting in death, and two counts of operating a vehicle while her license was suspended, revoked, or denied, leading to serious injury.
Additionally, she is charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident that resulted in death and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious injury.
The charges suggest that Sandoval was driving without a valid license at the time of the accident. Police also maintain that she committed the crime and drove away from the scene without checking on the victims or providing assistance.
