Carjacking Incident in Galveston
The dramatic events unfolded around 10:30 a.m. when Doug Ancell approached an elderly woman at the Bob Lyons Post Office in Galveston, located at Broadway and 59th Street. According to police, Ancell pushed the woman to the ground, took her walker, and then drove off in her SUV.
Swift Response from Law Enforcement
Galveston police wasted no time in notifying nearby law enforcement agencies about the stolen vehicle. Within 15 minutes, officers from the League City Police Department and deputies from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office spotted the SUV heading north on the Gulf Freeway. This led to a pursuit when the suspect failed to stop.
Chase Ends with Overheated SUV
The pursuit came to an unexpected halt when the stolen SUV overheated, forcing Ancell to pull into a parking lot of a restaurant in Webster. This gave officers the opportunity to arrest him. The 66-year-old suspect was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and is currently being held at the Galveston County Jail.
Victim’s Condition
Fortunately, the elderly woman, though shaken by the ordeal, was not physically harmed. Law enforcement authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
