Follow Us

San Antonio and surrounding areas in western South Central Texas are getting a brief break from the intense summer heat today, thanks to rain-cooled air and scattered thunderstorms.

These storms will offer temporary relief but are expected to continue through early Wednesday evening. Residents should be ready for possible rain and localized flooding, particularly in the western regions.

Storms and Rainfall Expectations

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, the highest chances for rain—up to 75%—are in areas west of I-35, including Rocksprings, Del Rio, and Uvalde.

These storms may bring heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and brief periods of intense weather, especially along U.S. 277 and U.S. 90. While temperatures in the western parts of the region will reach the mid-80s, cities like Austin, La Grange, and Georgetown will see highs in the mid-90s.

Weather Outlook for San Antonio

San Antonio itself is expected to see a high of 89°F today with a 50% chance of afternoon rain. Eastern cities, including New Braunfels and Gonzales, will likely stay dry and hotter, with temperatures climbing into the 90s.

Drivers should be cautious of sudden downpours, especially west of I-35, where brief localized flooding is possible.

Although the storms are expected to taper off overnight, rain chances will continue in parts of the region through Friday. However, by the July 4th weekend, drier and hotter conditions are set to return, with temperatures expected to soar to 98°F across Central Texas.
