A violent dispute between a Massachusetts man, Andrew Horsman, 41, and his mother’s longtime boyfriend, 66-year-old Paul Pomerleau, escalated into a tragic stabbing that resulted in Pomerleau’s death. Horsman has been charged with murder following the fatal altercation in Middleborough.
The Fatal Stabbing
On Sunday night at around 8 p.m., the Middleborough Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a violent fight in a suburban neighborhood.
Upon arrival, officers found Paul Pomerleau suffering from multiple stab wounds. Pomerleau was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Horsman and Pomerleau had reportedly been in a long-standing feud, and family members confirmed that tensions between the two men had been high for some time. The argument that led to the stabbing reportedly began over something as simple as steaks, according to prosecutors.
Though specifics about the dispute remain unclear, witnesses to the altercation reported seeing the argument unfold before the stabbing occurred.
A Long-Standing Feud
The altercation on Sunday was not the first time the two men had clashed. According to family members, Horsman and Pomerleau had been engaged in a longstanding feud that reached its peak during the argument over the weekend.
Neighbors of Pomerleau, who had known him for over 30 years, described him as a kind and generous person. Jeff Burr, a neighbor, told local media, “He was like a gentle giant. He was a great guy. He’d give you the shirt off his back.”
Pomerleau’s family expressed their grief, calling him a deeply loving father who was always dedicated to his children and grandchildren. “He had a way of making everyone feel like family,” they shared in a statement.
The Arrest and Court Proceedings
After the fatal stabbing, police quickly identified Andrew Horsman as the suspect based on witness statements at the scene. Horsman was taken into custody without incident and later charged with murder by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. He was arraigned on Monday at Wareham District Court.
The tragic death of Paul Pomerleau highlights the devastating impact of unresolved conflicts, even within families. The argument between Horsman and Pomerleau, which reportedly began over something as simple as steaks, ultimately led to a fatal and senseless act of violence.
As the legal process unfolds, the community mourns the loss of a man described as a loving father and generous neighbor.
