This weekend, Albuquerque will experience sweltering heat, with temperatures soaring close to 97°F by Sunday. The dry conditions combined with high temperatures will heighten fire danger and pose a risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for outdoor workers and travelers. Here’s a look at the forecast for the coming days.

Saturday, June 28: Hot and Sunny

Saturday will be sunny with temperatures climbing to around 95°F. Winds will remain calm throughout the day but may shift slightly in the afternoon. The hot, dry conditions will persist, and fire danger remains elevated across central New Mexico, particularly along I-25 and I-40.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and avoid anything that could start a fire.

Sunday, June 29: Peak Heat

Sunday will be even hotter, with temperatures reaching up to 97°F. The heat, combined with dry conditions, will increase the risk of wildfires, particularly in open areas across Bernalillo and Sandoval counties. It’s essential to avoid strenuous outdoor activities between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., the peak heat hours of the day.

Monday, June 30: Slight Relief with Storms

By Monday, temperatures will drop slightly to 93°F. However, there will be a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms as an unstable pattern develops. The chances for storms will increase to 30% by Monday night, bringing the possibility of gusty winds and lightning. Keep in mind that thunderstorms could still pose a fire risk if they produce dry lightning.

Tuesday, July 1: Increased Storms

On Tuesday, the chance of storms will rise to 30%, and temperatures will remain around 90°F. The stormy pattern will continue, bringing unsettled weather with some cooler temperatures. Thunderstorms may bring more gusty winds, lightning, and a risk of flash flooding in some areas.

Wednesday, July 2: Unsettled Conditions Continue

The unsettled pattern will persist through midweek, with a 40% chance of storms and highs in the upper 80s. This will be a welcome change from the intense heat, providing a break before the July 4th holiday.
