Gypsy-Rose Blanchard has been through a difficult and controversial journey, but she’s finally breaking her silence after completing parole for her role in the 2015 death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
In a recent post on Instagram, the 33-year-old shared her feelings about taking accountability, moving forward, and healing from the trauma of her past.
Gypsy-Rose, who was convicted of second-degree murder after her involvement in her mother’s death, served eight years of her 10-year sentence and now wants to reclaim her life, with a focus on self-forgiveness and growth.
The Crime and Its Aftermath
In June 2015, Gypsy-Rose’s boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, stabbed her mother, Dee Dee, to death. Gypsy-Rose was in a bathroom during the incident, but it’s believed she manipulated Godejohn, who had a history of autism and Asperger’s syndrome, into committing the crime.
For years, Gypsy-Rose’s mother had kept her in a state of deception, forcing her to pretend to be severely ill while actually being healthy. This abuse, known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy, led Gypsy-Rose to eventually plot her mother’s death with Godejohn.
While Gypsy-Rose was sentenced to prison, Godejohn was given a life sentence for first-degree murder. Gypsy-Rose, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and served eight years in prison before being released on parole in December 2023.
Gypsy-Rose’s Accountability and Moving Forward
In her Instagram post, Gypsy-Rose wrote about how she has come to terms with her past and taken full accountability for her role in her mother’s death. She explained that she accepted her sentence and has carried the weight of her choices for years. Now, with her parole officially over, she sees this as a new chapter in her life.
“I’ve taken accountability and now, I take back my life,” she shared. “This is freedom. And I’m moving forward with clarity, peace, and self-forgiveness.” She emphasized that her parole was a form of justice, not just for her, but for Dee Dee, too.
Gypsy-Rose’s Stance on Nicholas Godejohn
While Gypsy-Rose took responsibility for her actions, she also made it clear that Nicholas Godejohn is not exempt from his role in the crime. In her post, she referred to Godejohn as “deeply disturbed” but pointed out that he was aware of his actions and the consequences that followed.
Despite her unintentional manipulation, she firmly believes that he made a conscious decision to go through with the crime, which led to his life sentence.
She added that Godejohn had shown a pattern of targeting vulnerable women, manipulating them into his “twisted fantasy world.” Gypsy-Rose shared messages between Godejohn and another woman he had been in a romantic relationship with while incarcerated, describing his behavior as a disturbing search for control over women.
Life After Prison
Gypsy-Rose reflected on the pain her actions caused Dee Dee’s family and expressed deep remorse for the suffering they endured. While she acknowledged that nothing could undo the trauma, she continued to express her sincere apologies for the loss.
However, she also made it clear that she has no intention of looking back. “You said I’d fail. But instead… I’m rising,” she wrote, adding that her focus is now on living her best life and proving everyone wrong. She’s determined to continue her personal growth and healing.
Gypsy-Rose ended her post with hashtags like #StillStanding, #Unstoppable, and #WatchMeRise, signaling her readiness to embrace the future with strength and resilience.
Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s story is a tragic one, filled with manipulation, deception, and a heartbreaking crime. But now, after years of reflection, she is determined to reclaim her life and move forward with accountability, self-forgiveness, and a commitment to healing.
While her past cannot be erased, her focus is on growth and showing the world that she’s more than the mistakes of her past.
