A Florida man was arrested after allegedly shooting a customer over a disagreement about the price of beer. The incident, which occurred at a Fort Lauderdale gas station, has left both the local community and law enforcement stunned, as the argument escalated to gun violence.
The Incident at the Gas Station
On June 19, at around 11:40 p.m., deputies responded to a call about a shooting at a Valero gas station in Fort Lauderdale. The shooter, 46-year-old Abdulla Monther, works as a clerk at the gas station.
When law enforcement arrived, Monther allegedly greeted them and explained that he had gotten into a verbal argument with a customer, which eventually led to the shooting.
The Argument Over Beer
According to a criminal complaint affidavit, the confrontation began when Monther and a customer disagreed over the price of a beer. During the heated argument, the customer allegedly threw a small object, possibly a piece of paper, at Monther.
In response, Monther went behind the counter, grabbed a firearm, and shot the customer in the right calf.
Witnesses and surveillance footage confirmed the sequence of events. The footage, provided by the store’s manager, showed Monther retrieving the firearm, racking the slide, and firing the gun towards the customer.
After the shooting, Monther allegedly taunted the victim, using offensive language and continuing to approach him while still holding the firearm.
Aftermath of the Shooting
Following the incident, Monther was questioned by authorities. He was read his Miranda rights and offered details about the argument over the beer price. A subsequent search of the gas station by law enforcement recovered the firearm, a bullet, and a magazine near the scene of the altercation.
Monther was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated battery. He was initially booked into the Broward County Jail but posted a $10,000 bond on Monday and was released.
