At its June 24 meeting, League City City Council approved a significant $2.3 million funding allocation for food supply services at The Ballpark in League City.

This funding will help support future contracts to provide food services at the city-operated facility, which hosts various events and recreational activities throughout the year.

What the Funding Supports

The $2.3 million will go towards securing food supply contracts for the Ballpark, a popular venue for community events. Potential vendors under consideration include Sysco, Gordon Food Service, and Ben. E. Keith, according to city documents.

These vendors will provide food services for the numerous events held at the facility, offering a variety of food options to visitors.

Other City Council Approvals

In addition to the funding for food services, the council also approved a new speed limit for a portion of Hobbs Road. The speed limit along Hobbs Road, between Ervin Street and Patagonia Street, was increased from 30 mph to 35 mph.

This stretch of road is approximately 1.78 miles long, and the daily traffic volume is about 4,700 vehicles, as noted in city documents.

Proposed After-School Program Pulled

Another item on the agenda, a proposed resolution for a city-run after-school program, was pulled before it could be voted on. Sarah Osborne, the city’s director of communications and community engagement, explained that city staff needed more time to assess the costs associated with the program before presenting it to the council. At this time, it is unclear when the proposal will return to the agenda for a vote.

Next City Council Meeting

League City’s City Council will reconvene at 6 p.m. on July 8 at the League City City Chambers, located at 200 W. Walker St. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and attend the upcoming meeting for any new developments.
