A Wisconsin man, Michael Navrotsky, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses after allegedly beating his wife, Kimberly Navrotsky, in a violent altercation at their home.
The incident was reportedly triggered when Kimberly confronted Michael about his lack of personal hygiene, specifically his refusal to shower for several weeks.
The Triggering Confrontation
On Sunday, police in Kenosha responded to a call made by Kimberly Navrotsky, who had fled to a neighbor’s house after the violent altercation. According to a criminal complaint, the confrontation began when Kimberly told her 67-year-old husband that she didn’t want him sleeping on her clean sheets until he showered.
She expressed concern over his hygiene, mentioning that he hadn’t showered in nearly two months. This seemingly small request led to a violent dispute between the couple.
A Violent Attack
As the argument escalated, Michael allegedly became physically aggressive. Kimberly claimed that when she pushed him away out of fear he might attack her, he grabbed her around the midsection and her throat.
She reported being unable to breathe for several seconds. Despite her attempts to escape, Michael allegedly punched her in the face three times with a closed fist.
As Kimberly noticed blood covering her body, Michael reportedly claimed that the blood was his. Kimberly then attempted to call 911, but Michael grabbed the phone from her.
The assault continued as he allegedly twisted her left ankle, causing her significant pain. Kimberly managed to kick him in the groin and ran to a neighbor’s house for safety.
The Aftermath
Kimberly Navrotsky later called 911 from the neighbor’s house. Police arrived at the scene and observed several injuries to her face, including a bloody nose that she believed was broken.
She was taken to the hospital for treatment. The police also learned that Michael’s behavior might be influenced by underlying health issues.
Kimberly told officers that her husband had been diagnosed with “delusional episodes” and “early onset dementia,” and she believed these conditions contributed to his violent behavior. However, she noted that Michael had refused to seek treatment.
Michael’s Statement
When questioned by police, Michael Navrotsky claimed that the argument began because he hadn’t showered in about three weeks. He denied attacking his wife and instead claimed that she had attacked him first, stating that he “back-handed” her once in self-defense.
However, police found that Kimberly’s injuries were more consistent with her statement than Michael’s account.
Legal Consequences
Michael Navrotsky was arrested and charged with substantial battery, strangulation and suffocation, domestic abuse intimidation of a victim, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
These charges are all enhanced with modifiers for crimes against an elderly victim. He remains in custody on a $5,000 cash bond, with his next court date set for July 1.
The disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of domestic violence, even in situations that might initially seem trivial. It also highlights the impact that untreated mental health issues can have on behavior, especially when combined with violence.
