Two people are now in custody after a burglary took place at a fireworks shop in Alvin, Texas, on Wednesday morning. Deputies from the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office have confirmed that multiple suspects were involved, and at least five are still on the loose.
The Incident: What We Know So Far
The burglary occurred at Flash-Bang Fireworks, located off County Road 129 near Highway 35. The store, known for its 24-hour operations, had actually closed early the previous evening due to slow business, shutting down at 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
When the owners, Loren Donaldson and her father, arrived at the store after receiving a security alert, they found approximately six to eight suspects inside the shop.
Donaldson described a chaotic scene where thieves were seen grabbing large fireworks items, including 500-gram cakes and artillery packs, and carrying them out of the store. They also jumped over fences and counters in an attempt to steal whatever they could.
What Happened Next
The co-owner’s father, who is also the chief of the Clear Lake Shores Police Department, identified himself as a police officer. Reports say that he fired at least one shot during the confrontation, though it remains unclear whether anyone was injured during the incident.
Deputies have been actively investigating and searching various vehicles, including a blue Toyota with its trunk open and fireworks inside. However, the exact number of stolen fireworks remains unknown at this time.
Ongoing Investigation and Suspects at Large
While two suspects have been arrested, investigators are still searching for the remaining five. Evidence markers were seen at the scene, and the sheriff’s office has not yet disclosed how the suspects were detained. As of now, authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
