Three men from Houston were arrested and charged for their involvement in the theft of a U-Haul box truck and possibly burglarizing a fireworks stand in League City, Texas. Delvin William, 30, Chance Stafford, 29, and Marcell Williams, 28, were all taken into custody by local police.
The Incident and Arrests
The incident unfolded around 1:50 a.m. on June 21, when League City police were notified by the Flock Safety system about a stolen U-Haul box truck heading northbound on the 2500 block of S Gulf Freeway.
Officer David spotted the truck near the 200 block of South Gulf Freeway and followed it until back-up officers arrived. As the officers prepared to stop the truck, the driver, identified as Delvin William, sped off and took the ramp at the 19000 block of S Gulf Freeway.
The truck hit a curb and slowed down, but the driver and two passengers, Stafford and Williams, jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot towards Braybrook Mall.
Police Pursuit and Discovery of Fireworks
Despite their escape attempt, the three men were quickly located by League City police with the help of Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office and the Houston Police Department. When officers searched the stolen U-Haul, they discovered multiple boxes of fireworks.
This discovery led the police to investigate fireworks stands in the Dickinson and Galveston County area, where they found that one stand in Galveston County had been burglarized.
Charges and Arrest Details
The three suspects face various charges related to the stolen U-Haul truck and the suspected fireworks stand burglary:
Delvin William was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle with a $25,000 bond and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity out of Galveston County with a $50,000 bond.
Chance Stafford had three outstanding felony warrants from Harris County for Money Laundering ($25,000 bond), Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity ($25,000 bond), Credit/Debit Card Abuse ($10,000 bond), and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity out of Galveston County ($50,000 bond).
Marcell Williams was charged with Evading Arrest/Detention on Foot ($2,500 bond) and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity out of Galveston County ($50,000 bond).
Investigation and Ongoing Efforts
The League City Police Department, along with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, continues to investigate the incident. Authorities are working to determine the full extent of the theft and if more fireworks stands were targeted in the area.
