Pearland is gearing up for several road improvement projects that are expected to start in the coming months. These projects, set to begin as early as September, aim to enhance both the east and west sides of the city and address various traffic and infrastructure concerns.

Major Roadwork in Sherwood Subdivision

One of the key projects is the reconstruction of concrete streets in the Sherwood subdivision. Originally developed in the 1960s, this neighborhood is in need of significant repairs. According to city officials, the streets in the area are currently in poor condition, with major cracking and signs of underlying damage.

The city’s pavement condition index rates most of the streets in Sherwood at an average score of 51, which is considered poor. Streets that score below 50 are deemed in need of immediate attention.

The city has allocated nearly $7.9 million for this reconstruction project, which will take place over the next few years. The expected completion date for the project is May 30, 2027. Funding for this project comes from bonds issued in 2007 and 2019.

Improvements Along Shadow Creek Parkway and Broadway Street

Another major project set to begin in October is aimed at improving nine intersections along Shadow Creek Parkway and Broadway Street. The purpose of these improvements is to address the increasing traffic in the area.

The project will include adding or modifying turn lanes at various intersections, installing new traffic signals, and connecting a trail link to the Clear Creek Trail at Shadow Creek and Business Center Drive.

There will also be adjustments made to a business driveway at Market Place Boulevard and Shadow Creek, along with the installation of 1,800 linear feet of fiber cable to improve connectivity.

This project, estimated at over $9 million, will be funded through reimbursements from a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ). TIRZ is a tool used by cities to create a separate fund of property taxes to pay for local infrastructure improvements. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Pearland Parkway and Broadway Street Intersection Upgrade

The smallest of the upcoming road projects is a $1.8 million upgrade to the intersection of Pearland Parkway and Broadway Street. This area has seen increased congestion due to the city’s continuous development, which has altered traffic patterns.

The work is expected to begin in September and should be completed by February 2026. This project aims to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow through the busy intersection.

Pearland residents can expect to see significant improvements in road conditions and traffic management over the next few years. The city’s commitment to addressing infrastructure needs will not only improve daily commutes but also contribute to the long-term growth and development of the city.

With these projects underway, Pearland is poised to make important strides in enhancing its transportation system.
