On the morning of May 24, Baytown officers responded to a call about a possible drowning at a home on East Road around 11:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found two men — a fire marshal and an off-duty paramedic — performing CPR on Gavin.
His older brother had found him unresponsive in the pool and immediately pulled him out, starting the chain of events that would save his life.

Baytown police officers assisted in carrying Gavin to the EMS teams, who were ready to transport him by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital for further treatment.
One officer also made sure Gavin’s mother was able to stay by her son’s side, driving her to the hospital. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of his family, bystanders, and the emergency responders, Gavin survived the incident.
