Texas Rangers Release Reliever, Seeking New Opportunity in Korea

The Texas Rangers have been making several roster moves lately, with changes due to injuries, recalls, and overall team adjustments. One of the more recent moves involved releasing a veteran relief pitcher, Gerson Garabito, allowing him to pursue an opportunity overseas. Here’s a closer look at this decision and what it means for both Garabito and the Rangers.

Gerson Garabito’s Time with the Rangers

Gerson Garabito had been with the Texas Rangers for several seasons, making his Major League debut in 2024. Throughout his time with the team, he made 21 appearances, with 18 of those coming in 2024 and three this season.

While Garabito’s career with the Rangers had its ups and downs, he was known for some key moments, including his MLB debut on May 26, 2024, against the Minnesota Twins. In that game, he impressed by throwing 3.2 innings of two-hit baseball, showcasing his potential.

However, Garabito’s overall record with the Rangers was not the best. He finished with a 0-2 record and a 5.77 ERA, having struck out 30 batters and walked 13 in 34.1 innings. His most recent outing was on April 7 against the Chicago Cubs, where he pitched 3.1 innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs.

After that game, Garabito was sent down to the Triple-A Round Rock Express, where he struggled, posting a 0-7 record with an 8.53 ERA in 10 games.

Moving Overseas to Pursue New Opportunities

Despite his struggles in the minors, Garabito has now been given the chance to explore a new opportunity with a Korean baseball organization, likely the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization). This move is expected to give him more consistent playing time and the opportunity to further develop his skills, something that was hard to come by with the Rangers at the moment.

With two of the Rangers’ starters currently on the injured list, the team still doesn’t appear to have room for Garabito in their current setup. The decision to release him allows him to pursue a fresh start and potentially secure a role in the KBO, where he could get the innings he missed out on while with Texas.

Gerson Garabito’s journey with the Texas Rangers comes to a close as he looks to continue his career in the KBO. While his time in the majors with the Rangers wasn’t without its challenges, this move provides Garabito with a chance for more opportunities abroad.

For the Rangers, it’s just another part of their ongoing roster adjustments, ensuring they have the right players in place for both the present and the future.
